Glasgow Bursary

University of Glasgow MTh in Ministry, Theology and Practice

and Dr Williams's Glasgow Bursaries (£3,250)

From September 2019 the Trustees of Dr Williams's Trust and the Department of Theology and Religious Studies of the University of Glasgow are offering a part-time taught MTh. course (over two years) on the practice and theory of church life. This will be taught one day a month in central London.

Dr Williams's Trust will offer up to ten bursaries to cover the part-time tuition fees (£3,250 per annum) to candidates from England, Wales or Northern Ireland who are accredited Ministers among Protestant Dissenters and who, for the better discharge of his or her ministry, wish to undertake full or part-time research leading to a higher degree. Preference may be given to candidates belonging to one of the Three Denominations. An undertaking is required that it is the intention of the candidate to remain in the Protestant Dissenting Ministry in the United Kingdom.

Programme

The programme is intended to support those in ministry to enhance their expertise and capacity in key areas of ministerial practice, which is reflected in the four core courses:

  • Resourcing Congregational Ministry
    • applying leadership skills to Christian ministry.
  • Homiletics and Biblical Hermeneutics
    • communicating ancient texts in contemporary culture.
  • Bible, Doctrine and Freedom of Inquiry
    • exploring the Protestant traditions of scripture and its meaning.
  • Creative Ministry
    • fostering spiritual life and creative ministry.

An independent directed study and a dissertation.

These courses focus on developing core expertise and skills to support sustained ministry. Much of the assessment will focus on previous and current ministerial experience, which will also entail projects focused on the life and practice of local congregations.

The programme will meet one day a month (September to December and January to April) and is intended to be delivered at Dr Williams’s Library. However, during the Library’s renovation it will meet near Gordon’s Square in Central London.
